Serums

Using serums to prevent and treat ingrown hair is very handy. They are easy to work with; all you have to do is apply a thin layer of the solution to your skin and let it do its job. Serums also do well with exfoliating brushes and gloves which I’m going to review later in the post. These products have beautiful cleansing properties and they get rid of all the buildup that slows down the healing process.

Anthony Ingrown Hair Treatment Serum

This serum has been made with men in mind. However, women are more than welcome to use the product too. When you think about it, there is no such thing as a serum for a man or for a woman. Except perhaps for the smell. However, this product is quite good. It removes ingrown hairs faster than any other solution. My boyfriend uses it all the time. You don’t get too much of the serum (3 fl oz), however you only need apply small amount of it each time you use it. Therefore, it does last long.

The product contains glycolic, salicylic and phytic acids that remove dead cells, kill bacteria and free hairs speeding up the healing process. It also has willowherb and lavender extracts that calm and soothe the skin. That’s mainly the reason why it works well on sensitive areas such as face. I suggest for those with dry skin to watch out, the serum is quite strong and can dry it out even more causing unnecessary redness. If you have normal or oily skin, you should be fine though.

Tend Skin Care Solution

Tend Skin serum is one of the cheapest ingrown hair products out there and it’s a bestseller on Amazon probably for many good reasons. Even though the price is low, it does its job well and lasts for quite a while. This solution can be used before and after shaving, waxing or just removing hair. It mainly cleanses the pores and removes build up that improves the overall healing process. If you use it before shaving hair, it cleans up all the dust, dead cells and helps razors to come closer to your skin without irritating it. It also coats your skin, therefore when you’re waxing, it only catches your hair and leaves skin untouched.

Tend Skin Care Solution is easy to use. You simply need to apply a very thin layer of it to your skin and let it do its job. It’s suitable for both men and women since you can use it for face, underarms, legs, bikini area, etc. The serum works faster for one people, slower for others but you should expect to be bump free in around two days. It’s a product that’s worth a try, trust me! You don’t have much to lose with this one.

Kerah Lane Formula

Here is an all-natural serum that doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals that other anti-ingrown hair creams do. Kerah Lane is based in United States and that’s where they make their products. If you’re looking for something local and natural, this product might be exactly what you need. What first caught my eyes was the 30-day money back guarantee. If you find the product to be pretty much useless, you can return it easily. That’s not something other companies can even offer.

The product is suitable for sensitive, dry skin since it’s made from natural products and doesn’t contain alcohol. They claim that this serum even helps to reduce wrinkles, pimples and skin discolorations. Wouldn’t be so sure about wrinkles but it does help with general skin discolorations. A bottle of this serum, which is by the way 8 oz, contains essential oils, vitamins, minerals, lavender and witch hazel. Sounds like a pretty good formula for overall skin care. If you are considering turning towards more natural products, Kerah Lane is a good choice.

Best Products for Ingrown Hair

Here are some of the other products that can help to get rid of ingrown hair. As I’ve mentioned before, pretty much all of them can be used with serums. Indeed, most of the time it’s probably best to do so. As you’ll notice all of them are for exfoliation since it’s such an important part of skin care routine.

Clarisonic Mia1

Electric facial brushes are great for removing and preventing ingrown hairs and all sorts of bumps from your skin. I couldn’t help myself but recommend this baby. It’s designed for face and the main idea behind the product is to clean pores and get rid of makeup. However, you could as easily use it on your underarms or bikini area to treat ingrown hairs. It has a built-in oscillation technology that helps to cleanse even the most delicate parts of your skin. You can use it both with water and without it. The idea is that while brushes are twisting and rotating they create a vacuum that sucks out everything that shouldn’t be on your skin. It’s very gentle and handy to use, since you can take it to the shower or just do it while bathing.

Clarisonic Mia1 is quite expensive. Therefore, it’s not for everyone. However, if you have constant ingrown hair outbreaks or you’re looking for a more natural way to remove your makeup and have some spare cash, it may be just for you. It offers a great way to massage your face skin as well as helps to prevent formation of wrinkles. Overall, very convenient for daily use. The device will last for up to 2-3 years, depending on how often you use it.

Mabua Cleansing and Ingrown Hair Brush

Here is a cheap but very effective brush that helps to get rid of ingrown hairs on face, neck, scalp and any other body part. It works best with one of the serums I’ve mentioned above or just a cleansing tonic. You can use it with plain, homemade soap as well. Just make sure you don’t dry out your skin too much. It has nylon bristles and polystyrene handle. It lifts hair for shaving too so you can use it both before and after removing hair. Overall, it’s cheap and does help with slowing down the outbursts of ingrown hair.

Earth Therapeutics Exfoliating Hydro Gloves

I know there are some folks who like to exfoliate with gloves. They’re pretty comfortable to use since you only need to put the glove on and just touch your skin with it. It’s up to you on how much you want to exfoliate. If your skin happens to be sensitive, it’s probably better to lightly massage it with these gloves on. You probably know by now that exfoliation is critical to preventing and removing ingrown hairs. Exfoliating gloves give means to doing it without irritating skin.

I personally advise to use them with one of the serums above to get most out of the product. Earth Therapeutics Exfoliating Hydro Gloves are made of nylon and fit all hand sizes. They’re easy to wash as well. Just use them in the shower on daily basis and you’ll notice improvements quite soon.

What Should Be Your Skin Care Routine to Avoid Ingrown Hairs?

Here are some of the tips on how to use the products above to prevent hair bumps. If you follow this simple routine, you should be just fine.

Step 1: Exfoliate

Use one of the brushes to exfoliate your skin. You can use them with some water, moisturizing cream or serum from above. It’s important not to irritate your skin otherwise it will be damaged before you even start removing hair. In case of that, you’ll probably end up with rashes. Be careful and gentle.

Step 2: Apply Serum

Take some serum and apply it to your skin. Make sure you only have a thin layer on it. Too much of the solution may dry out your skin and have the opposite effect. Once again, be careful.

Step 3: Remove Hair

Pretty simple. Either shave, wax or epilate!

Step 4: Apply Serum

Once again it’s a good idea to apply serum to kill bacteria and keep your skin clean. That prevents inflammation that causes ingrown hair.

Step 5: Exfoliate

Exfoliation is something you should do every day. It helps to remove dead skin cells that no longer serve a purpose.
